Understanding your child’s unique learning needs, as well as navigating the school system, can be a daunting task for parents seeking help for their students. The key lies in understanding all of their strengths and individual needs. With this information, we can remove barriers to learning and design a plan to help your child develop the skills they need to thrive in school and life.
Educational Testing
Dr. Comartin provides comprehensive, diagnostic educational evaluations for children, adolescents, and young adults. Common referral concerns include academic difficulties (reading, writing and/or math), suspected learning disabilities (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia), social skills deficits, behavioral problems in school, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and mood disorders, such as depression and anxiety. When appropriate, Dr. Comartin provides diagnoses for neurodevelopmental disorders (DSM-5), as well as recommendations for special education eligibility (IEPs) and school accommodation plans (Section 504). Following the evaluation process, Dr. Comartin provides a written report for parents and school teams, as well as consults with parents on the creation an immediate action plan to support the student in all areas of need.
Educational Consulting
Dr. Comartin has an extensive background working with public school districts and private schools to meet the needs of students with a variety of needs. In addition to conducting evaluations, Dr. Comartin is available to help parents navigate the educational system and fully understand the options available for their children. Common areas of need include help with: making sense of school evaluations & individual education plans (IEPs), the student study team (SST) process, general education strategies, special education services, classroom accommodation plans (504s), behavior support plans, resolving parent-district disagreements, and private educational services (tutoring, therapy).
